Iran among the top ten future science and technology superpowers

According to a recent report by the Australian Strategic Policy Institute (ASPI), Iran has been identified as one of the top ten future scientific and technology superpowers, surpassing Japan in the rankings.

The report evaluated 44 technologies through ASPI’s new Critical Technology Tracker, with Iran being among the top five nations in six of these technologies and ranking ninth overall.

Iran demonstrated significant expertise in innovative aviation engines, including hypersonic engines, when evaluated on the basis of the number of publications, citations, and the Hirsch Index. Iran ranked fourth in this category, ahead of Japan, Italy, and the UK, but behind China and the United States.

ASPI also identified Iran as one of the top four nations in the world for research into smart materials, biofuels, and new technologies that have the potential to disrupt the market. The report’s focus on critical performance indicators of scientific and technical capabilities enabled it to identify countries that have an advantage in these metrics.

Iran has been known for its contributions to science for many years. However, the Critical Technology Tracker’s evaluation goes beyond basic research and focuses on identifying countries that have a strategic advantage in the 44 technologies assessed.
