Islamabad, Pakistan – Imran Khan, the leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) party, has recently filed a petition with the Islamabad High Court (IHC) requesting the relocation of at least four courts from Sector F-8 Markaz to the more secure Federal Judicial Complex (FJC) building in Sector G-11. The petition emphasizes the need for enhanced security measures, citing concerns over the precarious law and order situation surrounding the sessions court in Sector F-8 Markaz.
Mr. Imran Khan, a prominent figure in Pakistani politics, listed the district administration of Islamabad, the inspector general, and the chief commissioner as respondents in the petition. The move aims to address safety concerns and ensure a secure environment for judicial proceedings involving Mr. Khan and his associates.
The IHC has granted the PTI chairman protective bail in seven cases filed within Islamabad’s territorial jurisdiction until June 12. These cases are based on First Information Reports (FIRs) filed in four different police stations in Islamabad. The charges against Mr. Khan stem from allegations of instigating people to block major thoroughfares and attack police officers on May 9. FIRs have been filed at the Khanna, Shahzad Town, Tarnol, Karachi Company, and Kohsar police stations. Additionally, Mr. Khan is accused of encouraging attacks on police officers in a few other FIRs.
Among the accused, Mr. Khan’s wife, Bushra Bibi, as well as Shahzad Akbar and Zulfi Bukhari, have also been charged with misusing a store receipt to sell Toshakhana watches. This particular FIR was filed with the Kohsar Police. The legal proceedings surrounding these charges highlight the need for a secure and conducive environment for the fair administration of justice.
The urgency for enhanced security measures has become evident following an incident in March when former Prime Minister Imran Khan arrived at the Federal Judicial Complex (FJC) to attend a hearing in the Toshakhana case. The event turned chaotic as skirmishes broke out between the police and PTI supporters in Islamabad. The clash resulted in several injuries, with at least 25 people hurt, and numerous vehicles and a police chowki set on fire. Such incidents underscore the pressing need to ensure the safety of all individuals involved in legal proceedings.
Imran Khan’s petition seeks to safeguard the integrity of the legal system by advocating for the relocation of the courts to the more secure Federal Judicial Complex in Sector G-11. This move aims to provide a safer environment for all parties involved in the ongoing cases, including Mr. Khan and his associates, while simultaneously addressing the concerns surrounding the law and order situation.
The Islamabad High Court will now carefully consider the petition and the accompanying arguments, evaluating the feasibility and merits of the requested relocation. The court’s decision will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth and fair progress of the legal proceedings while prioritizing the safety and security of all involved.
