- Imran Khan criticises the government over the economic crisis
LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman and former Prime Minister Imran Khan expressed his astonishment at the establishment’s support for the incumbent regime, which is leading the country into an economic meltdown.
Imran khan taking to his Twitter account and criticized the government’s sole agenda of crushing PTI and disregarding the rule of law. He compared the current regime to General Musharraf’s martial law, describing it as a fascist government.
Khan raised concerns about the depreciation of the Pakistani rupee against the US dollar, warning that it would result in hyperinflation. He highlighted the alarming state of the economy, with the dollar reaching Rs. 315 in the open market and between Rs. 320-325 for non-CNIC holders. The significant gap between the official rate and the open market rate stood at Rs. 30 per dollar.
According to the former PM, the dollarization of the economy would discourage both local and foreign investment, leading to a contraction of the GDP and, worse, hyperinflation. He also pointed out that leaders of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) have billions of dollars stashed abroad, indicating their indifference towards the country’s economic situation.
However, Khan raised a crucial question regarding the role of the establishment in allowing such a severe economic meltdown to occur. He expressed his disbelief at the establishment’s apparent inaction in the face of this crisis.
The PTI Chairman’s remarks shed light on his deep concerns about the economic state of Pakistan under the incumbent regime. He emphasized the need for urgent action to prevent the country from experiencing a complete economic collapse. Khan’s statements also implied a lack of confidence in the establishment’s handling of the situation and called for accountability regarding their role in this unfolding crisis.
