Imran Khan departs for Islamabad to appear before court today

The PTI Chief is due before a sessions judge in Islamabad in Thoshakhana case after he skipped the hearing for multiple times.

Lahore: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman (PTI) Imran Khan on Saturday left for Islamabad from his  Zaman Park residence in Lahore to appear before a court in the Toshakhana case.

The PTI Chief will appear before Additional District and Sessions Judge Zafar Iqbal in the case.

Before departure to Islamabad, Zaman Park witnessed hundreds of workers reaching there and then praying collectively for the success of their leader in today’s hearing.

The workers who looked quite excited chanted slogans in the favour of Imran Khan. As the convoy came on the road from Zaman Park, Imran Khan received welcome at every main point on his way to Islamabad motorway as the supporters showered rose petal on his vehicle from the over-bridges.

The latest reports suggested that the high security arrangements were made at Islamabad Judicial Complex ahead of Imran Khan’s arrival there.

Keeping in view the security challenges,  Islamabad Commissioner Noorul Amin Mengal changed the venue of the case hearing from F-8 Complext to Judicial Complex in G-11.

On the last hearing, the PTI workers removed all barriers at the Judicial Complex and Vandalized the building and violated the courts’ decorum.

Imran Khan had earlier skipped his indictment for multiple times as originally it was scheduled for February 28, and later it was deferred till March 7 but he could not appear due to the security concerns and the hearing was adjourned March 9 but it was adjourned again til March 13 without any progress in the case.

The judge had issued non-bailable arrest warrants for Imran Khan for not turning up before it, and the Islamabad police reached Zaman Park to implement the court orders.  As the police reached Zaman Park, the PTI workers did not allow them to serve the non-bailable arrest warrants and showed huge resistance to the law enforcers.

The police used tear gas and water cannons to disperse them to reach Imran Khan but the workers stayed there to face everything for their leader.  All the roads leading to Zaman Park were blocked and the whole area looked like war zone.  During the clashes,  over 60 police personnel and many PTI workers got injured which were shifted to Services Hospital for medical care.

The legal team of the PTI chief sought relief from the sessions court. However, the judge remarked that his orders were as per the law and that the PTI chief must surrender before it.

However, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday  stopped the police from arresting the PTI Chief and gave him last chance to appear before the trial court.
