- Imran Khan requests “immediate talks” for Pakistan’s benefit.
LAHORE: PTI leader Imran Khan reiterated his call for immediate dialogue among stakeholders, stating that the current approach was not a solution to the country’s problems.
Speaking via video link, he expressed that whenever he called for dialogue, he faced mounting pressure and even had police stationed outside his home with warrants issued against him. He clarified that he was not addressing the public to announce his departure from PTI, but rather to remind people why he entered politics. He urged against destroying Pakistan in an attempt to crush PTI.
Imran Khan criticized the crackdown launched against the party without proper investigation into the attacks on Lahore’s Commander House. He emphasized that harming the army was equivalent to weakening the country and questioned if anyone would want to do so. He also stated that the PTI did not fail to condemn the attacks, mentioning that the party possessed videos showing police officers burning vehicles during the protests.
Addressing concerns about the PTI’s future, Imran Khan dismissed the notion that the party was ending due to “forced divorces,” asserting that a party only ceases to exist when its ideology fades away. He pledged to continue fighting as long as he was alive.
Drawing attention to the negative changes in economic indicators since his ousting in 2022, Imran Khan warned that the country was continuously sinking and a new crisis was looming. He emphasized the need for control to prevent the situation from spiraling out of hand. He accused the government of wanting to hold elections only after ensuring the PTI’s demise and stated that people who possess a sense of freedom do not fear arrests.
Imran Khan shared his understanding of the UK system, which he acquired during his time as a cricketer, noting that establishing the supremacy of the constitution was one of the UK’s greatest merits. He highlighted that justice grants people their fundamental rights and protects the weak from the powerful. Lamenting the shortcomings of the Pakistani system, he stressed that it hindered people’s opportunities for growth.
Pointing out the substantial number of Pakistanis abroad, Imran Khan mentioned that Pakistani doctors in the US alone had a net worth of $200 billion, with the ten richest among them amassing $25 billion. He expressed disappointment that the country had to rely on the IMF for $6 billion. Despite Pakistan’s immense blessings, he attributed its current situation to a lack of justice and emphasized that a flourishing country thrives on investment.
Imran Khan concluded by reaffirming his commitment to establishing justice, citing the principles of the state of Medina as the foundation of his party. He emphasized that moving forward required a clear understanding that the rule of law must be established.
