ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court senior puisne judge Justice Qazi Faez Isa on Monday said that he had been in the neighborhood since 2014 but he came there on the invitation of the parliament.
“You called me today and I am here before you. I don’t want to make any political speech but I want to say that we are standing by this book,” said Justice Isa while addressing the joint session of the parliament.
Justice Isa said they took oath that they would defend the Constitution of Pakistan, adding that if he failed to do so he could be criticized.
“I want to make it clear that I have nothing to do with the political statements,” said Justice Isa.
He said that he came to take part in the session because it was the Golden Jubilee of the Constitution. He said the law was his field and they viewed the matters through the eyes of law. He stated that they also heard criticism.
Justice Isa said he thought there would be constitutional things but there had been many political things, making it clear that he He said he disagreed with the things discussed on the floor of the house but under the constitution, they had freedom of press.
“After the shadow of God, they are under the shadow of this book,” said the Justice Isa while referring to the book of the Constitution. He said the parliament, the judiciary and the bureaucracy should work for the people by defining their roles.
He said his father took part in the Pakistan movement along with Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah.
“His father was only member of the Muslim League from Balochistan for Pakistan movement,” said Justice Qazi Faez Isa, adding that there was just a dream and then a political movement started and Pakistan appeared on the earth.
“Unfortunately, there is no such good movement at this time,” said the judge.
He appreciated former prime minister for introducing the Constitution on 10th of April.
He thanked the joint session for inviting him to the session held in connection with Golden Jubilee of the Constitution of 1973.
Later, NA Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf while addressing both traditional and social media said that the session was not called for any political party or purpose; it was called for the special occasion of the Golden Jubilee and therefore, they are asked to portray the positive side of it.
