The former prime minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Sardar Tanveer Ilyas, has been arrested by the Margalla Police in Islamabad. The police spokesperson stated that Ilyas was arrested because a case had been filed against him at the Margalla Police Station.
Officials said that Ilyas is facing six serious charges, including attacking an office belonging to a private company. The spokesperson confirmed the arrest, mentioning that Ilyas was taken into custody after a thorough investigation and legal procedures.
The spokesperson mentioned that a First Information Report (FIR) was filed against Ilyas at the Margalla Police Station in the capital on April 30. The FIR included Sections 452, 448, 506-II, 148, and 149 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).
As reported by The News, the FIR was filed by the ex-PM’s chief security officer, Col (retd) Tepu Sultan, who is also the owner of a shopping mall in Islamabad. The FIR claimed that the former PM attempted to take over the central offices and important documents of the shopping center by force and with shotgun fire during the attack, according to the police.
Sultan also named Muhammad Ali, Anil Sultan, Rizwan, and other unidentified individuals in the FIR. According to the FIR, Ilyas, accompanied by a group of 20 to 25 armed individuals, forcibly entered the office of the shopping mall by breaking the lock, with the intention of taking control of the premises.
It also alleged that their attempt was stopped by vigilant security guards, and Ilyas threatened to harm Sardar Yasir Ilyas Khan and Sardar Dr. Rashid Ilyas Khan, along with their colleagues.
The FIR stated that these individuals assaulted the security officer, and upon receiving information about the incident, law enforcement officials arrived at the scene, where the former PM allegedly fired at Sultan, who narrowly escaped the bullets.
