Fake Address Update Texts Scam Costing People Money

In November last year, a widespread SMS scam was reported on, that was affecting many users across the country. This scam involved fake SMS messages claiming that users’ delivery packages would not reach them unless they updated their street address by clicking on a malicious link.

Unfortunately, this scam is still spreading like fire, with numerous users continuing to report receiving these fraudulent messages.

As shown in the screenshot, the scammers have not changed their approach. The SMS still pretends as an official message from Pakistan Post, urging recipients to update their address through a harmful link

It is crucial to remember that Pakistan Post never requests online payments or changes to your order details via SMS, especially not through malicious links. If there is an issue with your order, the legitimate platform from which you ordered will contact you directly through their official communication channels, not via random phone numbers.

Safety Tips

To protect yourself and others from these scams, follow these guidelines:

  • Do Not Click Suspicious Links: Never click on links from random phone numbers or unverified sources.
  • Protect Personal Information: Avoid sharing personal information through SMS or unsecured channels.
  • Educate Others: Inform your friends and family about these scams to help keep them safe.
  • Use Scam-Detection Tools: Consider installing apps like Google Messages that can recognize and report scam messages.

By staying vigilant and following these precautions, you can help prevent falling victim to these persistent SMS scams. Stay safe and informed!
