Facebook and WhatsApp users may experience disruption for the next 36 hours, according to a nationwide advisory issued by the Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) on Thursday. The notice warned that users across Pakistan could face interruptions on Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram and other Meta-owned platforms due to planned technical maintenance beginning at 1 a.m. on December 11 and continuing until 1 p.m. on December 12.
PTCL stated that the maintenance activity could affect service quality even for users with stable internet connections. The disruptions may include delayed message delivery, slow loading times, and sudden outages across Meta services. The alert was issued after PTCL reportedly received a surge in user complaints regarding service instability in recent days.
However, Meta has not officially confirmed the maintenance schedule or shared specific details regarding the expected disruptions. Tech industry sources, along with Meta’s AI-driven monitoring tools, have instead advised users to rely on official Meta status pages or verified business-center updates to confirm any outages, cautioning that unverified messages circulating on social media or SMS could be misleading.
Extended maintenance windows of this scale often impact daily communication and online business activity, particularly affecting freelancers, small businesses, digital marketers and customer support teams that depend heavily on Meta platforms for operations.
