DPM Dar to Visit US Next Week for UNSC Signature Events, Palestine Talks
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar will embark on a significant diplomatic visit to the United States next week, where he will chair multiple high-level United Nations Security Council (UNSC) events in New York, and participate in key bilateral engagements in Washington, the Foreign Office confirmed on Saturday.
Dar’s visit comes at a crucial time when Pakistan holds the rotating presidency of the UN Security Council, underscoring the country’s rising role on the global diplomatic stage.
Pakistan to Lead UN Debate on Multilateralism and Peaceful Resolution
According to the official press release, DPM Dar will chair a high-level open debate on the theme:
“Promoting International Peace and Security through Multilateralism and Peaceful Settlement of Disputes.”
The debate aims to explore strategies to strengthen multilateral diplomacy, enhance global mediation efforts, and reinforce the peaceful resolution of international disputes.
“This is a testament to Pakistan’s deep-rooted commitment to international peacekeeping and diplomatic engagement,” the Foreign Office spokesperson stated.
Focus on Palestine: Pakistan’s Strong Diplomatic Stance
Dar is also scheduled to preside over the UNSC’s Quarterly Debate on the Situation in the Middle East, with special attention to the Palestinian Question.
Additionally, he will participate in the High-Level Conference on the Peaceful Settlement of the Palestine Question, which will include in-depth discussions on the implementation of the Two-State Solution.
“Pakistan stands unwavering in its support for the Palestinian people and their right to self-determination,” the spokesperson emphasized.
OIC-UN Collaboration on Global Peace
Another highlight of Dar’s visit will be his chairing of a high-level UNSC briefing on enhancing UN-OIC cooperation. The session aims to promote joint strategies for global peacekeeping, humanitarian aid, and counter-terrorism efforts.
This initiative aligns with Pakistan’s long-standing goal to strengthen the synergy between the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the United Nations, particularly in conflict zones involving Muslim-majority nations.
Bilateral Talks Expected in Washington
While in New York, DPM Dar is also expected to hold bilateral meetings with foreign ministers and senior UN officials, further strengthening Pakistan’s position in multilateral diplomacy.
In Washington, his agenda includes engagements aimed at enhancing Pak-US relations, which are currently witnessing a cautious thaw amid changing regional dynamics and shared economic interests.

Strategic Messaging on the Global Stage
Dar’s participation in these UNSC and OIC-linked events highlights Pakistan’s growing diplomatic influence and its ability to lead critical conversations at international forums.
This visit not only enhances Pakistan’s multilateral standing but also comes at a time when the global geopolitical environment is under strain, particularly due to ongoing Middle East tensions and the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
As DPM Dar prepares to chair the UNSC session on Palestine, tensions continue to escalate, with Hamas demanding a permanent ceasefire agreement in Gaza before any interim truce is considered.
