Contempt plea against PM, CEC over delay in Punjab polls despite SC order

Former PTI MPAs, Zainab Umair and Talat Fatemi have filed a contempt of court petition against the non-implementation of the Supreme Court’s decision to hold elections in Punjab. The petition targets several individuals including the Prime Minister, Chief Election Commissioner, Acting Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan, Attorney General for Pakistan, Special Finance Secretary, and members and secretary of the Election Commission.

According to the petition filed in the Supreme Court, the former MPAs claim that despite the court’s order to hold elections in Punjab on May 14, no funds or security arrangements were provided for the polls. They further argue that the State Bank, as directed by the court, failed to ensure the provision of funds, and both the central bank and the Finance Ministry did not comply with the court’s orders.
