Babusar Top blocked due to Heavy Snowfall

Babusar Top, a popular tourist destination and a crucial road link between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan in Pakistan, has been blocked due to unexpected heavy snowfall in the month of July. This unusual weather event has caught both locals and travelers by surprise, causing authorities to close off the roads to all kinds of traffic.

Numerous videos circulating on social media platforms showcase the stunning sight of Babusar Top covered in a thick blanket of snow. The roads leading to the pass are also heavily snowed under, making it treacherous for vehicles to navigate. Additionally, a relentless blizzard has accompanied the snowfall, leading to poor visibility and further exacerbating the hazardous conditions.

With the roads rendered impassable, travelers have found themselves stranded, seeking refuge by the roadside. Those who were en route to Babusar Pass have been halted midway, unable to proceed due to the blocked roads. Given the severity of the snowfall and the subsequent challenges in clearing the roads, the local administration is yet to issue any directives regarding the reopening of Babusar Pass.

In a related development, the district administration recently implemented a ban on night travel between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan via the Mansehra-Naran-Jalkhad Road. This decision, aimed at ensuring the safety of passengers and tourists during the monsoon season, was made in consultation with the administration of Chilas. Deputy Commissioner Bilal Shahid Rao of Mansehra confirmed that the ban would be in effect from 6 pm to the morning hours.

To enforce the government’s order and prevent vehicles from crossing Babusar Top, police personnel have been deployed at the pass. Their presence aims to maintain order and safety by restricting access until the situation improves and the roads can be cleared.

The unexpected heavy snowfall in July and the subsequent closure of Babusar Top serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of weather patterns. It highlights the importance of preparedness and caution, both for travelers and the local administration. While the snow-capped landscapes may present a picturesque scene, they also bring forth significant challenges and risks that must be addressed effectively.

As the snowfall continues, efforts are underway to clear the roads and restore access to Babusar Pass. However, given the magnitude of the task and the ongoing weather conditions, it may take several hours or even days before the roads are deemed safe for travel once again. Until then, it is crucial for travelers to heed the authorities’ warnings and avoid unnecessary risks.

As the situation unfolds, it is imperative for both residents and tourists to exercise patience and adhere to the instructions provided by the authorities.
