Azerbaijani artist transcribes Holy Quran on silk pages for the first time

Azerbaijani artist Tünzale Memmedzade has made history by transcribing the Holy Quran on transparent silk sheets, using gold and silver inks. This is the first Quran translation to be printed on silk pages, making it an exceptional and unique work of art.

First Quran of its kind:

Quran Printed on Silk Pages The 33-year-old artist and Marmara University art student in Turkey, Memmedzade, spent three years creating the magnificent piece of art, using 1,500 milliliters of gold and silver inks and 164 feet of silk fabric.

Each page of the Quran measures 29 x 33 centimeters and features the official translation made available by the Turkish Presidency of Religious Affairs, or Diyanet.

The Artist Behind the Transcription:

Tünzale Memmedzade was inspired to take on this challenging project after discovering that while the Holy Book had been inscribed on other materials in the past, it had never been done on silk. She is thrilled to have achieved this remarkable feat and views the piece as her chef d’oeuvre. Memmedzade is known for her love of calligraphy and her work reflects this passion.
