PTI to move Supreme Court against ECP decision of deferring Punjab elections

LAHORE: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Thursday announced filing a petition against the decision of Election Commission of Pakistan to defer elections in Punjab.

Earlier, President Arif Alvi announced holding the general election on April 30 in Punjab, the biggest province in Pakistan.

Addressing a press conference, PTI leaders Asad Umar and Fawad Chaudhry said that Barrister Ali Zafar was preparing the petition which would be filed in the Supreme Court soon.

They said that they also considering filing a contempt of court petition against Khyber Pakhtunkhawa governor for not issuing the election date in the province, despite the orders of the Supreme Court.

A day earlier, the ECP postponed the upcoming elections in Punjab, citing security reasons as the major cause behind the change of plan.
