- The former US diplomat says that there are indications that Pakistan’s parliament might well ask the Supreme Court to disqualify Imran Khan from running for election and even prohibit PTI in the next few days.
Islamabad: The fresh tweets by former US envoy for Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad in favour of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan triggered a new debate on the social media on Wednesday.
Zalmay Khalilzad made these tweets despite that the Foreign Office advised him to stay away from the domestic issues.
The journalists are retweeting his tweets by making different comments.
Taking to Twitter, the US Diplomat said, “said there are indications that Pakistan’s parliament might well ask the Supreme Court to disqualify Imran Khan from running for election and even prohibit PTI in the next few days,”.
He also tweeted, “The government appears to have decided to set up Imran Khan as Enemy No 1 of the State. Such steps will only deepen Pakistan’s triple crises: political, economic, and security. Already, some countries have suspended planned investments,”.
Zalmay also warned the coalition government that the international support for Pakistan would “decline further” and political polarization and violence would “likely increase” if the steps mentioned by him were taken by the authorities.
He expressed hope by saying, “ I hope the Pakistani political leaders rise above destructive petty politics that undermine the national interest. If not, I hope the Supreme Court says no to being used in games that undermine the nation’s interests. I am becoming increasingly concerned about Pakistan,”.
The Foreign office last week had strongly reacted to Khalilzad’s tweets, saying that his lectures are not needed.
