Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is having problems with its flights because they can’t get enough fuel from Pakistan State Oil (PSO). This is because PIA hasn’t paid its bills.
About 20 PIA flights, both within Pakistan and internationally, had to be canceled or delayed because they didn’t have enough fuel. PSO stopped giving them fuel because PIA owed them 10 million rupees out of 1.5 million rupees. PIA had paid most of the money they owed on October 9, but not the last bit, and this is why they ran into trouble.
PIA’s flights within Pakistan were the most affected. A flight from Faisalabad to Karachi was delayed, and one from Islamabad to Sukkur was canceled. However, their international flights were not affected, so they are still running on schedule.
This is a big problem for PIA because they were already having financial trouble and had to cancel or delay flights several times before due to not having enough money.
This issue caused a lot of inconvenience for passengers who now don’t know when they’ll be able to travel.
The flights that got canceled were from Karachi to Lahore (PK 306), Karachi to Peshawar (PK 350), Karachi to Gwadar, Karachi to Islamabad (PK 370), Karachi to Quetta (PK 310), Karachi to Bahawalpur (PK 588), and Karachi to Rahim Yar Khan. An international flight from Karachi to Dubai (PK 215) was delayed too.
Anwaarul Haq Kakar, the acting prime minister, presided over a high-level meeting on Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) matters on Wednesday. The meeting received a thorough briefing on the many PIA challenges.
To fix the problem, PIA paid 20 million rupees to PSO, and now PSO has started giving them fuel again.
PIA is in a tough spot financially and loses about 400 million rupees every day. The government is trying to figure out how to help them.
