Imran Khan secures protective bail in Islamabad terror cases

Lahore: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman and former Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday secured protective bail from the Lahore High Court (LHC) in two cases registered against him and others under terrorism charges for vandalism at Federal Judicial Complex in Islamabad.

Justice Tariq Saleem Sheikh granted bail to Imran Khan in two cases registered against him in the federal capital till March 27.

Earlier, the PTI Chief appeared before the  LHC to seek bail in two cases along with person security guards. But the court asked his security guards to leave the courtroom, observing that the police were there for his security.

His party workers chanted slogans and warmly welcomed their leader as they showered rose petals on them as he arrived there.

According to the latest reports, Justice Tariq Saleem Sheikh of the LHC took up the case and Imran Khan is present inside the courtroom.

Earlier, Islamabad police booked Imran Khan, other party leaders and workers  in two different cases over charges of pelting stones at the security personnel and attacking them besides setting the police vans at fire on the occasion of Imran Khan’s appearance before the court in Thoshakhana case. Over dozens of motorcycles were also set on the fireSubsequently, two first information reports (FIRs) were registered at the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) and the Golra police stations in the capital against Imran and other PTI supporters.

The PTI on Monday moved two petitions in the LHC through his counsel Barrister Salman Safdar and submitted that he was currently living in Zaman Park’s residence while the police had surrounded it for his arrest.

He submitted that approaching the courts was one of his fundamental rights but the authorities could obstruct his right.

Imran Khan sked the court to grant him protective him bail to give an opportunity to surrender before the court of competent jurisdiction.

The court on Monday had asked the lawyer of the PTI Chief to ensure appearance of his client for hearing of the bail pleas.
