SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir police claimed to have arrested a man who was posing as “senior official” of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) in India early this month.
The conman was identified as Kiran Patel, a resident of Gujarat, posed as Additional Director ‘Strategy and Campaign’, in the Prime Minister’s office, India.
Patel somehow managed to get top level security, a bulletproof vehicle, and official accommodation at a five-star hotel in Indian Occupied Kashmir.
However, Patel was held on March 3. A case was lodged against the accused with the Nishat police station.
Three more people posing as ‘official team’ led by Patel managed to escape, but he did not.
As per the First Information Report (FIR), the accused motivated the people to do illegal activities, under a well-organised strategy to get the monetary benefits.
The law enforcement officials seized fake identification cards of “PMO” from the accused.
According to the initial investigation, the conman visited a number of areas including Doodpatri in the Budgam district of central Kashmir.
Patel also managed to hold meetings with officials and even visited the Line of Control (LoC), and posted his photos at an Indian army installation in Uri sector.
Patel is also verified on Twitter. In his bio he claims to have a PhD from Commonwealth University, Virginia, an MBA from IIM Trichy, as well as an M Tech in Computer Science and BE in Computer Engineering.
