Imran Khan to challenge sessions court’s verdict upholding his arrest warrants

Islamabad: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan is expected to approach the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday (today) against the verdict of the sessions court in which his plea challenging arrest warrants was dismissed.

The legal team of the PTI Chairman would file the appeal in the IHC after the sessions court dismissed his plea against arrest warrants and directed him to appear in person before it on March 18.

According to the latest reports, Advocate Khawaja Haris would make the request to shift the case of his client from the court of additional district and sessions judge Zafar Iqbal to any other court besides pleading for early hearing.

The decision to appraoch the IHC was made after additional district and sessions judge Zafar Iqbal turned down Imran Khan’s plea against arrest warrants in Thoshakhana case.

Imran Khan had earlier skipped his indictment multiple times as originally it was scheduled for February 28 and later it was due on March 7 and then March 13 and now it is March 18.

In its verdict, the court held, “ it is concluded that the application is not justified by law as well as fact which is hereby rejected,”.

It also held that the applicant “prayed that in view of the undertaking given by him and the sureties offered by him to the satisfaction of this court, the order dated 13.03.2023 may kindly be recalled and suspend the warrant of arrest.

“Keeping in view the law and order situation created by the applicant, he has lost some of the normal rights granted by procedural as well as substantive laws and he has to actually surrender before the court due to his defiance of the court process.

“Such eventuality is never appreciated by the court and it is regarded as willful default,”.

The sessions court dismissed his plea after he failed to turn up before it on March 13 and led  a rally in Lahore.
