Internet services suspended in parts of country

“Internet blackout hits parts of Pakistan: Authorities cite security concerns”

ISLAMABAD: The process of shutting down internet services in major cities of Pakistan has commenced after the protests staged by the PTI workers across the country following the arrest of Imran Khan in Islamabad today.

All telecom service providers have received orders to suspend internet services in the country. Additionally, the administration has also requested to stop mobile signals in Lahore, which may result in mobile phones ceasing to work. While the reasons for the shutdown are unknown, it may be an attempt to maintain peace and avoid potential disturbances amid the current political and social uncertainty in the country.

Such measures are not unprecedented in Pakistan, where internet and mobile services have been shut down in the past on several occasions. However, such actions often receive criticism for hampering communication and causing inconvenience to the general public.

It is essential for the government to ensure that such measures are taken only when necessary and that they do not violate the fundamental rights of citizens, including the right to access information and communicate freely. It is crucial to strike a balance between maintaining law and order and upholding the people’s fundamental rights.

Earlier, the All Pakistan Private Schools Federation declared that all private schools in the country will be closed on Wednesday, May 10, due to the current law and order situation in the country.
