Imran Khan’s bail was extended by IHC
Islamabad High Court (IHC) extended the interim bail of former Prime Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan in eight cases until May 3.
During the hearing, Justice Farooq inquired about the nature of the cases, asking if they had terrorism sections in them and what the cases were about. In response, Imran Khan’s counsel stated that all the cases were registered after the former prime minister appeared before the judicial complex, and they had urged the court for his appearance via video link.
The IHC granted this extension on the basis of security concerns since Imran Khan was scheduled to appear before the Lahore High Court on the same day. However, the court warned that it is providing exceptional relief to Imran Khan to avoid setting a wrong precedent.
Imran Khan’s lawyer, Barrister Gohar Ali, confirmed that the former Prime Minister and PTI chairman would not appear before the IHC that day due to security concerns.
The cases against Imran Khan include his alleged involvement in the 2014 sit-in, along with several other charges of attacking senior police officials and damaging government property. However, the PTI chairman has denied all charges, calling them politically motivated and an attempt to silence the opposition.
The PTI government has been heavily criticized for its alleged use of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to target opposition leaders. The NAB has been accused of targeting political opponents of the government and using its power to suppress political dissent.
Furthermore, the PTI has been accused of using the judiciary to silence its opponents. The opposition has alleged that the government has been using the courts to persecute its political opponents and disqualify them from politics.
The extension of Imran Khan’s bail has sparked mixed reactions among the public. Some have praised the IHC for providing exceptional relief to Khan, while others have criticized the PTI for using the judiciary to silence its opponents.
