The CTD Additional Inspector General of Police has claimed that the mastermind and handler of the alleged bombers have also been traced out.
Peshawar: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Additional Inspector General of Police Shaukat Abbas said that they arrested key suspect involved in Peshawar mosque suicide attack in which killed 84 people were dead and several others injured.
“Jamaat-ul-Ahrar is behind the suicide attack,” said Mr. Abbas while addressing a press conference on Friday.
The suicide blast took place on January 30 in the mosque of Peshawar Police Line where hundreds of police personnel had gathered to offer Friday prayer. The bomber entered the building and blew himself right at the moment when the prayer leader said ‘Takbeer’.
The AIG revealed the footages in which the suspect could be seen entering the building.
Initially, the TTP took responsibility of the attack but later it distanced itself from the claim and the investigators found that some local faction of the banned group might be involved in carrying out the attack.
Shafqat Abbas said, “The bomber who carried out the attack is known as ‘Qari’ in the TTP circles,”.
He also stated that the suspect arrested by the law enforcers might be a “backup suicide bomber” in case the first bomber failed to detonate his vest.
The AIG said that the suspect was identified as Imtiaz Khan who was arrested by the CTD with the collective efforts of the law enforcement agencies.
However, the officer did not share the details about the place from where he was arrested, pointing out that the suspect got training in Kunduz area of Afghanistan.
The officer also revealed that the mastermind and handler of the shocking attack were also identified. The alleged bomber was in contact with Ghafar alias Salman at the time of the attack.
The recent past witnessed increase in the terrorism attacks in different parts of the country after the government and TTP failed to hold talks.
