Washington: Despite the freezing temperatures in the state, hundreds of Pakistani Americans gathered on Sunday to protest against the government’s actions targeting Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan.
Senior PTI leader in Virginia, Junaid Bashir explained that they aimed to raise awareness about the worsening human rights situation and the danger to democracy in Pakistan and to urge the government to cease intimidating Imran Khan without delay.
According to Akbar Chaudhary, who has been associated with Mr. Imran Khan since the 1990s, the current rulers in Islamabad pose a danger to Pakistan and should be removed immediately.
Kamran Rizvi, a prominent member of the PPP, stated that he felt compelled to speak out against what has been taking place in the country, as failing to do so would be a crime. He went on to explain that recent events cannot be considered as politics, but rather as an assault on democracy and its fundamental principles.
PTI leader Khalid Tanvir commented that the establishment needs to acknowledge the error it is committing.
Mazhar Lillah, another PTI leader, stated that the establishment should recognize the authority of civilians at present.
