LAHORE: Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Sirajul Haq commented on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s vote of confidence from the National Assembly, suggesting that it would be more appropriate if the premier also sought the trust of the people.
PM Shehbaz won the vote of confidence with 180 MNAs expressing full confidence in his leadership. Haq, who played a vital role in bringing the current government and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to the negotiating table, emphasized the need for general elections to resolve the ongoing political crisis and lift the country out of turmoil.
The Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM)-led government and the PTI finally sat on the negotiating table to discuss the election date as per Supreme Court’s orders. During the first round of talks, both sides shared their top leadership’s stance.
The JI leader stressed the need for consensus among all political forces and impartial institutions for free and fair elections. Haq maintained that the Constitution was being interpreted differently by various parties and called for flexibility on both sides for the negotiations to succeed.
The Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) held talks to discuss the poll date as directed by the Supreme Court.
During the first round of discussions at the Parliament House’s Committee Room Number 3, both sides presented their top leadership’s stance.
The government delegation included Ishaq Dar, Yousaf Raza Gilani, Khawaja Saad Rafique, and Naveed Qamar, while the opposition delegation included Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Fawad Chaudhry, and Barrister Ali Zafar.
