Shireen Mazari arrested again as crackdown on PTI leaders continues

Shireen Mazari has been arrested once more as the PTI leaders continue to be targeted.

ISLAMABAD: The opposition party, PTI, has accused the police of “abducting” their leader Shireen Mazari once again amidst the ongoing crackdown on PTI leaders. PTI claims that the police’s action is a clear violation of the Islamabad High Court’s order, which had prohibited her arrest until a hearing scheduled for tomorrow. Expressing their discontent, PTI criticized the regime, stating that the respect for courts is diminishing. Mazari’s daughter, Imaan Hazir-Mazari, confirmed her mother’s arrest.

Previously, the Islamabad High Court had granted Mazari and Senator Falak Naz Chitrali blanket relief, preventing authorities from apprehending them.

The PTI asserts that this action by the police flagrantly violates the order of the Islamabad High Court, which explicitly prohibited Mazari’s arrest until a scheduled hearing the following day. Taking to social media, the PTI expressed its disappointment with the current regime, claiming that the lack of respect for the judiciary is becoming increasingly evident.

Confirming the arrest, Mazari’s daughter, Imaan Hazir-Mazari, made a public statement about her mother’s situation. The repeated arrests of Mazari and other PTI members have sparked concerns about the state of political freedom and the rule of law in the country. The PTI believes that such actions undermine the principles of democracy and fair governance.

It is noteworthy that prior to this incident, the Islamabad High Court had granted Mazari and Senator Falak Naz Chitrali blanket relief, providing them protection from arrest by the authorities. This temporary relief aimed to safeguard their rights until the court could hear their cases and make a final determination. However, the subsequent arrest of Mazari has raised questions about the effectiveness of the court’s orders and the government’s commitment to upholding the rule of law.

These developments are taking place in a politically charged atmosphere, where tensions between the government and the opposition have been escalating. The PTI’s accusations against the police further fuel the already contentious relationship between the ruling party and its opponents. The incident has drawn public attention to the issue of political persecution and the need for an impartial and independent judiciary.

It also serves as a reminder of the importance of upholding the principles of democracy, respecting the judiciary, and ensuring the protection of political rights for all citizens.
