‘SC is mother of law, not mother-in-law,’: Fazl announces protests outside the top court

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) Chief and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam head Maulana Fazlur Rehman came down hard upon the top court for setting Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan free in a corruption case.

“Supreme Court is a mother of law, and not mother-in-law,” said Maulana Fazlur Rehman while talking to the reporters on Friday.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman announced protest against the courts’ decisions in the cases against PTI Chief Imran Khan. He said they would hold a sit-in outside the Supreme Court on Monday, saying that Imran Khan was being protected in Rs60b corruption case. He criticized the courts over a judgement that “Do not arrest Imran Khan even in a case which is not known,”. He stated that if any destruction or vandalism was done during their protests the PTI workers would be responsible.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman also regretted that Imran Khan was being given protocol and it was unfortunate that the Supreme Court protected a corrupt person. High Court, he said, granted him bail in all the cases.

“Where our judiciary is standing at?,” he questioned while criticizing the judiciary over judgements in the bail petitions of the PTI Chairman. The Supreme Court, Maulana Fazl said, backed him.

“Why this facility was not given to Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz and Faryal Talpur,” he raised another question. He also demanded disqualification of Imran Khan.

The reaction of the PDM chief came after the IHC granted bail to Imran Khan in all cases registered against him in Islamabad and Lahore. The court also stayed trial in the Thoshakhana case. The court also directed the government authorities to ensure foolproof security to the PTI chairman.

A day earlier, the top court declared Imran Khan’s arrest ‘unlawful’ and ordered the government authorities to immediately release him. The apex court directed the IGP Islamabad to present Imran Khan in the courtroom within 15 minutes. Complying with the court orders, the Islamabad police presented the PTI chairman before the court at around six PM.

PDM Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman earlier held a meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and discussed the prevailing political situation in the country.
