PTI leaders take U-turn, move to court to restore assemblies of Punjab, KP

Chaudhry Parvez Elahi claims PTI’s involvement in the restoration of assemblies

In an unexpected move of PTI leaders, the speakers of the Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assemblies have filed petitions in court seeking the restoration of their respective assemblies. This has caused confusion among political circles as it comes at a time when negotiations are ongoing between the opposition Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) and the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government.

According to media reports, the PTI President, Chaudhry Parvez Elahi, confirmed that Imran Khan was aware of the petitions being filed. However, PTI Senior Vice President Fawad Chaudhry has denied the reports and criticized the media for irresponsible reporting. He said that no TV channel had fact-checked the story before airing it.

The move by the speakers of the Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assemblies has sparked speculation that the PTI may be considering possible re-election in these provinces. However, it remains unclear whether the Pakistan tehreek-e-insaf intends to dissolve the assemblies and call for fresh elections or restore the assemblies and continue with the current government.

It is worth noting that the opposition PDM has been demanding fresh elections in the country, alleging that the 2018 elections were rigged in favor of the PTI. The PDM has held several rallies across the country in recent months to press for its demands, but the PTI government has refused to call for fresh elections.

The PTI has been facing increasing pressure from the opposition and its own party members over issues such as rising inflation, unemployment, and the recent wheat and sugar scandals. The government’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic has also been criticized by opposition parties.

In this context, the move by the speakers of the Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assemblies could be seen as an attempt by Pakistan tehreek-e-insaf to consolidate its position in these provinces. However, it remains to be seen whether this move will help or hurt the PTI in the long run.

It is also interesting to note the contrasting statements by Pakistan tehreek-e-insaf leaders regarding the petitions filed in court. While Chaudhry Parvez Elahi confirmed that Imran Khan was aware of the petitions being filed, Fawad Chaudhry denied the reports and criticized the media for irresponsible reporting. This raises questions about the coherence and unity of the PTI leadership and its ability to effectively govern the country.
