ISLAMABAD: The Foreign office on Friday confirmed that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will attend the coronation of King Charles III next week.
The ceremony will take place on May 6th at London’s Westminster Abbey and will be attended by heads of state from several countries, including France, Spain, Belgium, Japan, Hungary, and Australia.
The Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch stated that during his visit, the Pakistani premier will also participate in an event for Commonwealth leaders on May 5th and hold bilateral meetings with leaders attending the celebrations. Pakistan and the UK have a long history of relations anchored in the Pakistani-British community, and the British monarch and the royal family are seen as friends of Pakistan and its people.
Earlier, Buckingham Palace announced that Prince Harry would be attending the coronation but without his wife Meghan. The couple had quit their royal duties in early 2020, and their attendance had been uncertain for several weeks.
It’s worth noting that King Charles III, who ascended to the throne following the death of Queen Elizabeth in September 2022, will have his coronation some months later, following national mourning and intense preparations. The upcoming coronation is expected to be a significant global event, with many heads of state attending to pay their respects and strengthen international ties.
