LAHORE: The caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab, Mohsin Naqvi, expressed his disappointment and disapproval of the recent police raid on the house of Pakistan Muslim League Quaid (PML-Q) President, Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain.
The raid was conducted by a heavy contingent of Punjab police to arrest Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Parvez Elahi. Naqvi, who was in Madina at the time, expressed his shock after seeing a video shared by Shujaat’s son, Chaudhry Saalik Hussain, showing the police force attempting to break into their house during the raid. Saalik Hussain also suffered injuries during the incident.
In response to the incident, Naqvi took to Twitter and stated that no illegal actions would be tolerated by anyone. He urged that the law should take its course and that those who are found guilty of wrongdoing should be held accountable. Naqvi’s statement came after the Centre distanced itself from the raid, blaming the Punjab caretaker government for the incident.
On the other hand, the PTI lashed out at the interim government for launching an attack on the residence of senior party leader. Shah Mahmood Qureshi held a meeting with Finance Minister Ishaq Dar and apprised him about the part’s stance on this episode. Dar expressed regret over the raid and the violation of the dignity of the family. He also clarified that the federal government had nothing to do with the attack on the house of Chaudhry Parvez Elahi and that it was conducted by the Punjab caretaker government.
Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal grilled the PTI leadership for using children and women as shields to avoid the arrest. He also accused the PTI leaders of raising a hue and cry over arrests, claiming that PML-N leaders, including Nawaz Sharif, faced bogus cases and political victimisation during the PTI-led government’s tenure.
The police raid on Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain’s house during the operation to arrest Parvez Elahi has caused a stir in Pakistan’s political scene, with both the ruling and opposition parties condemning the incident. The incident has raised concerns about the misuse of power by law enforcement agencies and the importance of following due process in arresting individuals.
