Man sent to jail for hurling life threats at Shahzadi Rai

KARACHI: A judicial magistrate on Saturday sent a man on judicial remand for harassing and threatening a transgender rights activist Shahzadi Rai.

Couple of days ago, the Karachi police arrested suspect Shiraz and registered a case against him for allegedly trespassing and hurling threats at Shahzadi Rai in Gulistan-i-Johar on March 16.

The investigating officer of the case produced Shiraz before Judicial Magistrate (East) Abdul Ahad Memon and sought 14-day physical remand of the accused for interrogation.

The IO said that Shiraz had allegedly barged into the complainant’s apartment and hurled death threats at Shahzadi and also warned to attack her with the acid.

The court declined the request of the IO and remanded the accused in judicial custody till March 31. The court asked the IO to produce the suspect on the next hearing.

Transgender rights activist Shahzadi Rai filed a complaint to the police that unknown men harassed and threatened her multiple times.

Taking to the Instagram, Shahzadi Rai lauded the efforts of the Sindh police for arresting the accused. She also praised Sindh Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon for helping her in this matter. She said that the whole community remember his efforts in this case.

Earlier, she posted copy of the FIR to the social media and thanked the Sindh government for providing her the security after the incident.
