The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday directed the Lahore Development Authority (LDA), to take special measures and plant more than enough trees in order to increase the green cover in Lahore.
The court directed the LDA to submit a detailed complete plan along with the locations details, when will implementation occurs, and the monitoring process, so that its success would be ensured
The court expressed worrisome behavior about worsening of air quality in Lahore and its hazardous effects on public health
The court also noted that smog (a mixture of smoke and fog) is a persistent issue of the respective city, and is one of the main reasons of eye irritation, respiratory tract and breathing problems with other hazardous effects on human health.
In the 2022 annual global survey conducted by a Swiss air purifier manufacturer, Lahore climbed more than 10 spots to secure the top position for having the most alarming air quality in the world.
The reason behind Lahore’s top position as the most polluted city is that trees and plants wiped out in large number, worrisome condition of Ravi river, factories are placed in populated areas, smoke of machineries and cigarettes are increasing day by day, they all are contributing greatly in increasing the alarming effect of smog.
To counter the effect of smog, all main causes of smog should be under control and planting plants and trees as much as possible.
