Landslide in Torkham buries several trucks, containers

PESHAWAR: A number of trucks and containers laden with goods were covered up under the debris after a landslide at Torkham Export Road in the Khyber district of KP.

Following a landslide near the Pak-Afghan border, a fire erupted in some trucks, but the rescue teams acted swiftly to extinguish it. The relief operation is being led by Deputy Commissioner Khyber, Abdul Nasir Khan, who has deployed Rescue 1122 teams from several cities (Khyber, Peshawar, Nowshehra, Charsadda and Mardan) to participate in the relief effort, equipped with heavy machinery.

In response to the incident, Khan declared an emergency at Landi Kotal Hospital, while the actual extent of the loss is yet to be determined, pending the removal of rubble. This highlights the importance of prompt response and emergency preparedness during natural disasters.

Notably, last year, a similar landslide occurred on Shahrah-i-Noor Jehan Road, which resulted in several vehicles being stranded due to the blockage caused by large rocks and slabs. Fortunately, police and rescue teams were able to reach the site quickly, and no casualties were reported.
