Lahore administration issues new timings for markets, eateries in Ramadan

LAHORE: The Lahore district administration has relaxed business hours in compliance with the orders of the Lahore High Court. Lahore Deputy Commissioner, Rafia Haider, has released a notification outlining the new business hours in effect until the end of the Eid-ul-Fitr public holidays.

According to the notification, business activities in the provincial capital will continue until 1 am. This includes bakeries, sweets and grocery stores, which can operate until 1 am, and restaurants, which will be open from Iftar until Suhr.

Taking to Twitter, the Lahore deputy commissioner shared the notification in which timings were revised in the Holy month of Ramadan.

However, hospitals, medical stores, petrol pumps, CNG stations, puncture shops, milk shops, and tandoors will be exempted from these restrictions.

Once the Eid-ul-Fitr holidays have ended, the previous business hours will be reinstated, said the notification.

The relaxation in business hours in Lahore comes as a relief to the citizens who were affected by the previous restrictions due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The Lahore High Court had ordered the district administration to reconsider the previous restrictions and to facilitate the public during the holy month of Ramadan. The new working hours till Eid-ul-Fitr public holidays will provide more opportunities for people to shop and dine during the late hours of the night. This is particularly beneficial for those who are busy with work or other obligations during the day and find it difficult to visit shops and restaurants before they close.
