ISLAMABAD: Senior Supreme Court judge Qazi Faez Isa clarified that he did not choose to sit in the front row at the National Assembly convention marking the 50th anniversary of the Constitution the other day.
In a statement issued here on Tuesday, the upcoming chief justice said that he would have preferred to sit in the hall or gallery, but he was shown respect by seating him in the center.
All Supreme Court judges were invited to celebrate the Constitution’s golden jubilee, and he accepted the invitation after confirming that there would be no political speeches. Justice Isa was surprised by objections to his presence and seating place and emphasized that the Constitution’s celebration is not the exclusive domain of any particular political party or the institution.
The senior SC judge stated that adhering to the Constitution is the salvation of all Pakistanis. During his speech, Justice Isa asserted himself as a defender of the Constitution and claimed that people have the right to criticize him if he fails to uphold it. The debate surrounding his presence at the session triggered different opinions among lawyers and politicians.
Justice Qazi Faez Isa said that he had been in the neighborhood since 2014 but he came there on the invitation of the parliament.
“You called me today and I am here before you. I don’t want to make any political speech but I want to say that we are standing by this book,” said Justice Isa while addressing the joint session of the parliament. Justice Isa his father took part in the Pakistan Movement along with Quaid-e-Azam. The SC judge thanked the joint session for inviting him to the session held in connection with Golden Jubilee of the Constitution of 1973.
