“It’s hurtful and malicious,” Urwa Hocane reacts to Nadeem Baig controversy

Urwa Hocane, who is an actor, entrepreneur, and producer, is recognized for her outspokenness in expressing her worries, not just regarding the declining state of the industry, but also about the implications of being a prominent female personality.

The actress from Tich Button spoke up on Friday about a similar incident that involved her.  A video clip on social media making remarks against her by a well-known film and television director, Nadeem Baig went viral.

She shared a post on her Instagram account, expressing her disappointment with the format of TV shows that requires industry members to belittle each other in the name of entertainment and ratings.

Recently, the director of Mere Pass Tum Ho claimed during a rapid-fire questioning that Urwa Hocane was the cast member who threw the most tantrums during the filming of Punjab Nahi Jaongi.

The video clip quickly became popular on social media, with people criticising and ridiculing the Udaari actress. Nevertheless, Urwa promptly replied to all the trolls, stating that now that it has come to this, she would like to clarify her side of the story.

In her statement, she mentioned that she and Nadeem Baig had only worked on one project together and had different visions about the song “Lak Hilna.” Ultimately, they went with Nadeem’s vision for the song and dance steps, as Urwa felt he was not open to having a discussion. She also suggested that this may be due to societal intolerance towards a difference of opinion, especially when it involves a woman.

Although she acknowledged that she received backlash for her performance in the movie’s song, the Amanat actor and producer emphasised that she never blamed her director for it as she respected him.

She added, I admit some of it is my fault as she initially thought that it was essential to express one’s creative ideas and inputs as part of the team when she first began working in the industry.

Urwa reflected that now she is more experienced and understands that it is not appropriate to work in an environment where regressive and repugnant behaviour towards ideas and inputs exist, and where a person’s voice is instantly disregarded solely because she is a woman.

She expressed that being in the public eye and constantly exposed to trolling is already difficult enough for actors. It would be great if their colleagues didn’t contribute to instigating the audience to target a particular person.

“It is hurtful and malicious.” It’s important for everyone to realise that they can negatively impact a person’s mental health and overall well-being. Instead of engaging in such behaviour, we should be kind to one another, celebrate each other’s achievements, and motivate each other towards positivity. We must respect each other and focus on the good in each other before it’s too late and we’re left with regrets. After all, life is too short.
