ISLAMABAD: An in-camera briefing on current issues of national security will be given to Members of the National Assembly (MNAs) in Islamabad on Friday (today).
The meeting was summoned by the Speaker of the National Assembly, Raja Pervez Ashraf, and would be chaired by him at 2:30 pm.
Federal Ministers, advisers, National Assembly members, and chief ministers have been invited to attend. Military officials will brief the meeting on the current security situation, and federal secretaries from various departments, as well as chief secretaries and inspector generals from the four provinces, will also attend.
During a session on Thursday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif addressed lawmakers’ concerns about the National Security Committee’s decision to launch a military operation against terrorists in areas bordering with Afghanistan. He assured parliamentarians that they would be allowed to raise their questions and concerns regarding the security situation and that their concerns would be addressed. Minister for Defence Khawaja Asif also confirmed that the military leadership would be present in the National Assembly session to respond to members’ queries.
The National Security Committee, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in the chair, resolved to take strict action against terrorists and strongly condemned the recent terrorist attacks in different parts of the country. They emphasized that the terrorists’ cowardly acts would fail to fulfill their nefarious designs.
Overall, the in-camera briefing is an opportunity for MNAs to receive crucial information about the current security situation and for government officials to address concerns and answer questions from parliamentarians.
