Imran Khan wanted to remain in power till 2035: Zardari

ISLAMABAD – Asif Ali Zardari, the former President of Pakistan, has called for political parties to come together and reach an agreement to hold simultaneous nationwide general elections immediately.

During an interview with a private TV channel, the PPP Co-chairman claimed that in April of last year, General (r) Qamar Javed Bajwa threatened to impose martial law if the no-confidence motion against Imran Khan was not withdrawn.

Zardari went on to reveal that General (r) Faiz Hameed and Imran Khan had planned to remain in power until 2035. He stated that the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) was not afraid of elections but wanted them to be held in accordance with the constitution. He stressed the need for importance of parliament and expressed concern over the current state of affairs.

While he agreed with Imran Khan’s belief in elections, he differed with him on the timing of elections, suggesting that they be held in October. Zardari claimed that his party had fought to restore democracy, and it was their responsibility to protect the country.

Zardari warned that his party would not allow anyone to tamper with the Constitution and alleged that Imran Khan paid children to talk about others. He stated that there was a difference between his and Imran Khan’s domicile, and while he had faced false accusations, Imran Khan had open corruption cases against him.
