Imran Khan says ready for elections on same date if assemblies dissolved by May 14

LAHORE: Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Imran Khan stated on Monday that if the PDM-led government dissolved assemblies before the fixed date of May 14 for Punjab elections by the Supreme Court, the PTI would be ready to contest the general elections.

Addressing the May Day rally in Lahore, the former PM warned of potential lawlessness if the constitution was violated, and added that they would come to the streets if the SC’s orders were ignored. Khan expressed concern over the escalating inflation and its impact on the labourers.

The PTI’s rally in Lahore, led by Mr Khan, started from Liberty Chowk and concluded at Nasir Bagh. The district administration permitted the rally with certain conditions, such as ensuring uninterrupted power supply and no speeches against the judiciary and institutions.

PTI also held rallies in Peshawar and Rawalpindi, where PTI leaders expressed their solidarity with laborers and accused the PDM of being divided on negotiations.

Khan criticised the ruling parties for only holding elections when they think they have a chance of winning and removing him from their path. He claimed that they have even gone so far as to attack the homes of political opponents, like Pervaiz Elahi, and arrest members of his own political party. This, he argued, is an attempt to weaken the PTI’s position in the political landscape.

Khan made it clear that his party would take to the streets if anyone attempts to break the Constitution or go against the Supreme Court’s rulings. He insisted that the PTI is committed to upholding the Constitution and that peaceful protests are their preferred mode of action.

Khan expressed concern that Pakistan is headed towards destruction, with unemployment on the rise. He vowed that if the ruling parties reject the Supreme Court’s decision, the nation will come out in protest with him.

The PTI chief stated that the upcoming rally is being held in solidarity with laborers and in support of the rule of law. He emphasized that the PTI will stand with the Chief Justice of Pakistan and that the next week will make it clear whether there is truly rule of law in the country or not.
