FIA stops PTI leader Farrukh Habib from travelling abroad

LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader and former state minister Farrukh Habib was prevented from flying abroad by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Friday.

Habib was scheduled to travel to Dubai on a Pakistan International Airlines flight when he was barred from doing so because his name was on the stop list. Habib managed to avoid being “arrested” by the FIA and left the airport.

Reacting to this development, the PTI leader termed this action by the FIA as ‘Fascism at its peak’. He said that he was heading to Dubai to visit his family as one of his family members was undergoing live transplant surgery. But, he said, he was stopped at the airport.

“They {FIA} have my hand carry and passport,” said the PTI leader.

Earlier, another PTI leader Shahbaz Gill was prevented from flying to Saudi Arabia for Umrah from the Lahore airport.

Immigration authorities reportedly stopped him from leaving the country, as his name was added to the exit control list (ECL). Gill has been facing sedition charges for allegedly inciting mutiny within the armed forces due to his controversial remarks on a TV program.
