- ‘Illegal Recruitment Case’: Chaudhry Parvez Elahi will appear in court in Lahore.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) President, Chaudhry Parvez Elahi, who is currently under arrest for alleged illegal appointments in the Punjab Assembly, is scheduled to be presented before a local court in Lahore today.
The Punjab Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) arrested Elahi for the third time after he received relief in two corruption cases. This article provides an update on the case and the upcoming court proceedings.
Chaudhry Parvez Elahi will be presented before a judicial magistrate in a district kacheri court in Lahore today under strict security arrangements. Rana Intezar, President of the Lahore Bar Association, will represent him during the hearing. Additionally, Punjab Assembly Secretary Rai Mumtaz Hussain, who was arrested in connection with the illegal recruitment case, will also be presented before the court.
The illegal Recruitment Case
According to the ACE spokesperson, Chaudhry Parvez Elahi is accused of making 12 illegal appointments in the Punjab Assembly at grade 17 positions. The appointments were allegedly made by tampering with records and utilizing fake testing services.
The investigation conducted by the ACE revealed evidence of these fraudulent recruitments. Secretary Rai Mumtaz Hussain has also been implicated in the case for his alleged involvement in the fake recruitment process alongside Parvez Elahi.
Arrest Saga of Chaudhry Parvez Elahi
Chaudhry Parvez Elahi’s arrest saga began on June 1 when he was initially arrested outside his residence in connection with a corruption case involving embezzlement of development funds allocated for the Gujrat district, totaling Rs70 million.
However, he was released by a district court in Lahore the following day. Subsequently, he was arrested again in another corruption case registered against him by Punjab ACE in Gujranwala.
On Saturday, Elahi appeared before a court in Gujranwala, which discharged him from the two corruption cases related to alleged kickbacks in the development funds assigned for road construction in Gujrat. However, moments after his release, he was re-arrested by the anti-corruption personnel in connection with the illegal recruitment case during his tenure as the speaker of the Punjab Assembly.
