CAA seals Karachi Airport café for serving food in plates made with condom packaging

KARACHI: The Jinnah International Airport in Karachi gained notoriety when a traveler exposed the use of inappropriate material for paper plates at the facility. The traveler shared a video that went viral, explaining that the paper plates used for serving food were made from packaging material for condoms that had clear descriptions related to contraceptives.

While the traveler praised the food quality, they expressed concern over the use of such material in the paper plates being served to both domestic and international travelers.

Following the circulation of the video on social media, Border Health Services took action and sealed the food counters of the company responsible for this mismanagement. Dr Murtaza Shah, Director of Border Health Services, stated that this was done on the orders of the provincial health minister, and that the airport manager of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) was also identified as being negligent.

The CAA has imposed a fine and sealed the food counters of the company at the domestic and international terminal, as per their announcement. The local media reported that the same plates were being used for days to serve domestic and international travelers before someone finally made a video and the CAA took the action.

The incident at Jinnah International Airport in Karachi sparked outrage and concerns regarding the safety of food and hygiene standards at airports across Pakistan. Many citizens took to social media to express their disappointment and to call for stricter regulations to be put in place to ensure that such incidents are not repeated in the future.

It is alarming that such an oversight was made in the first place, as the safety and hygiene of food products are of utmost importance, especially in public places like airports. Many travelers rely on such facilities for meals, and the risk of contamination due to the use of inappropriate materials could have led to severe health consequences for those consuming the food.
