Babar Azam becomes second-fastest Asian batsman to score 12,000 runs

RAWALPINDI: In today’s match against New Zealand, Pakistan Cricket Team captain Babar Azam achieved another record by becoming the second-fastest Asian batsman to score 12,000 international runs.

He previously set records for being the fastest Asian player to reach 10,000 and 11,000 international runs. However, he missed out on equaling Virat Kohli’s record by just one inning. Kohli accomplished the feat in 276 matches, while Babar Azam did it in 277.

West Indies great Sir Vivian Richards has still held the world record for scoring 12,000 runs in just 255 innings. Last year, Babar Azam equaled Kohli’s record for the fastest 3,000 runs in 81 innings against England. He is also close to breaking the record for the fastest player to score 5,000 ODI runs, having already scored more than 4,850 runs, and he might break this record during this series.

Former South African top batsman Hashim Amla still holds this record, having reached 5,000 ODI runs in 101 innings. Babar Azam got out on 49 today as he is playing his 94th ODI innings against New Zealand. Babar smashed 29 centuries and 80 half-centuries in his 277 innings so far.
