Ayesha Gulalai, a former lawmaker from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has officially joined the Pakistan Muslim League (Q) led by Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain. During a press conference in Lahore, Gulalai, along with PML-Q chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, Chaudhry Sarwar, Noor Wali, and other party leaders, made the announcement.
During the press conference, Gulalai expressed her confidence in the leadership and vision of the PML-Q and confirmed her decision to join the party. Another notable leader, Noor Wali, from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), also announced his departure from the Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) and joined the PML-Q.
Ayesha Gulalai, initially a human rights activist from South Waziristan, started her political career in 2012. After joining the PTI, Ayesha Gulalai became a member of the PTI central committee through nomination. In the 2013 general elections, she was indirectly elected to the National Assembly of Pakistan as a candidate of PTI on a reserved seat for women from the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA). This made her the first-ever female Member of the National Assembly from FATA and one of the youngest members of parliament.
Gulalai left the PTI in August 2017, citing a lack of respect and dignity for women within the party. She accused Imran Khan, the leader of PTI, of sending her inappropriate text messages in October 2013. Gulalai launched her own faction of the PTI called Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (Gulalai) in February 2018.
